Wednesday Weigh-In: 3/24/10 and I'm An Adult Now

Scale was at a non-Earth-shattering 144.4 lbs. Given I've been going back and forth between 147 and 142 during this last month's baby nugget drama, it doesn't seem all too significant.

So, moving on....

We've finally reached another adulthood milestone: getting life insurance. Yeah, we should have done this sooner, but prolonged adolescence pooh-poohs such mundane expenditures.

During our medical interviews, we were asked detailed questions about drug use, alcohol consumption, smoking, history of physical and mental illnesses and family health issues. Not a single question was asked about what we ate or the extent of our physical activity. Oddly, I was grilled about my weight loss, and not in a good way. My change in diet and exercise was not viewed positively, but as a cause for concern for their actuaries. Apparently, they must think I have a non-diagnosed pre-existing condition. Maybe cancer or a parasite.

Lesson in reality learned: A healthy change doesn't always earn you a gold star.

  1. Ooh, you ARE officially entering grown-up world now! Welcome! :)

Actuaries are a strange breed. Nice, but strange.

  2. How crazy that the insurance peeps were weird about your weight loss and healthy lifestyle. Freaks.

Good going getting the insurance. I hate doing "responsible" stuff like that. One of these days we need to update our will - it's like 17 years old, and things have changed somewhat. Ugh. Don't even want to think about it!

  3. People at my office don't believe me that I don't have cancer; it's inconceivable that somebody could lose a dramatic amount of weight by simply eating less and exercising more.

Kudos to you on the life insurance purchase. Have you got a will yet? Do you need me to send you the entire "be an adult" checklist?

  4. If you wanna make me a beneficiary, I promise to do something super bad-ass with your remains. Then I'm gonna use the rest to buy some sneakers, dealsies?

  5. Are you serious?! They grilled you negatively about weight loss...fuck me I'm scared to get insurance now.

  6. Unintended weight loss is an ominous sign clinically. My GI doc really grilled me about my twenty pound weight loss. He wanted to know specifically what I was doing to lose weight (when we work so hard for seemingly such slow reward, it was kind of funny).

  8. Whoa. What a moron. Weight loss doesn't always equal weight loss. But part of me wonders if that's going to happen with health insurance. I can't even get covered until I get under 200. What are they going to preclude from that?!?

  9. I meant, weight loss doesn't equal cancer. I'm retarded. Sorry.
